Bullied – What Signs to Look For

Bulling occurs in every school. It could be minor teasing, such as name calling or poking. In more severe instances it can even become a means of sexual harassment. In any case it is not appropriate and can be damaging to the child that is the victim. It is important to keep the lines of communication open with your child. You will want them to come to you with any problems they are having at school. If they don’t you need to know what to look for and see the signs.

A Happy Child Turns Into A Sad Child

If your child loved school and couldn’t wait to get their to be with friends suddenly becomes sad and despondent there is a problem. If your child doesn’t come home excited to tell you about what was learned, there is a problem. If your child is having trouble sleeping or eating, there is a problem. These items may not have anything to do with bullying but these are some common signs.

Suffering Grades

If your child has been bringing home good grades and suddenly the level of learning has dropped tremendously, there is a problem. If the teacher is sending home notes that homework wasn’t complete or your child is not paying attention in class, there is a problem.

Low Self Esteem and Isolation

If your child doesn’t want to play with friends or neighborhood kids there is a problem. If you child is spending too much time alone in his/her room not interacting with other family members there is a problem.

Emotional And Angry

If your child is always angry and emotional then there is a problem. Your child may show signs of crying and temper tantrums as a way of getting some control. If they are acting out it is because they have reached a point of total frustration.

These signs can cover a range of behavioral issues not necessarily pertaining to being bullied. But if these signs occur the best mode of action is to talk with your child. Get to the root of the problem. Get the teacher involved and find out what actions can be taken to deal with the problems your child is having. Get your child therapy if need be to he/she can grow up with confidence and high self esteem.
