Why You Should Choose a Cot Bed? Posted By : Barry Waters
August 8th, 2009Cot beds can save you money and space. They are built for safety and help to ease that important and sometimes difficult transition from cot to bed. The conversion is often as simple as removing the side panels of the cot thereby making it an easy transition for your child.
They will Last Longer and Save you Money
- Only one bed to buy in 5 years: You will not need to purchase other items of bedding likes baskets, cots and toddler beds. *
- There is no requirement to purchase different bedding: The same mattress and bedding can be used when the transition is made from the cot to a bed
- From baby to toddler to child: As a cot bed transitions from a cot to a bed as your child grows you should not need to purchase a larger bed until your child has started school.
- Kinder to the environment: less furniture means less waste.
Designed for Safety
- Different Positions for the Base: When they are newborns you start them off in the higher position so you have easy access. When they can get up on their hands and knees you can then drop the mattress to make it safer for your baby.
- Teething Safety Rails: These can be found on the majority of cot beds. They act to protect a baby’s teeth and also help to prevent any damage to the cot.
- No Cut Outs: Cut-outs in the head or foot boards can be dangerous for babies and toddlers with their inquisitive head, hands and feet.
- Spacing of Slats: Good quality cot beds will not have slats that are more than 2 3/8 inches apart. This is an extremely important safety aspect.
They are Functional and Practical
- No DIY Nightmares: A good quality cot bed should not provide you with any great challenges during assembly.
- Cot beds are Available with Drop-sides: These are recommended if you would have difficulty reaching in and out of the cot or if you have a bad back. They provide easy access to your baby and most come with a one-handed operation.
- Easy Transition from Cot to Bed: In most cases it is simply the case that you remove the side panels from the cot. With some cot beds you get additional head and foot boards whilst others feature split ends so as to reduce the size of the boards.
- Space Saving: As cot beds are a good deal smaller than adult beds it means that you can save on floor space for a good deal longer.
Versatile and Practical, Cot Beds are the Logical Choice
* It is important to note that the advice from fsid is that the safest place for your baby to sleep for their first six months is either in a crib or a cot in the same room as you. If it is not possible or practical to have a cot bed in your bedroom, or to always be with your baby whilst they are asleep in a cot bed then we would advise that you also get a moses basket or crib for these first few months.
