May 18th, 2009Making the most of outdoor space can have many benefits in family life. In this article we take a look at how you can help your children to enjoy playing outdoors. We examine some of the games that many kids really love.
The great thing about outdoor play is that it tends to involve a higher degree of activity. That’s really important because it encourages children to exercise more. At a time when many kids simply aren’t getting enough exercise, it’s understandable that parents are looking for new ways to make sure that their children keep fit.
So how can you help your children to enjoy outdoor play? Your central focus should involve letting them see just how much fun it can be to play outdoors. If this isn’t already clear to them then it may take a bit of effort on your part, but it will be well worth it.
To begin with, it may be worthwhile to take a look at your garden and to ask yourself whether it offers an inviting play environment. Have you created something designed to appeal to kids, or is it more aimed at adults.
Striking the right balance isn’t always easy – it’s understandable that you’ll want to have a nice and presentable garden. If you’ve not left much of excitement for children then you may want to think about whether you could make some changes. Is there, for instance, a large enough lawn for them to use for running around and general play?
You’ll also want to think about the toys, games and equipment that you’re providing. Although children have extremely active imaginations, it makes sense to provide games that they’ll really enjoy.
These can range in terms of size and the amount that you’ll need to spend. Simple ball games can often be a good starting point – they tend to be relatively cheap and will help you to identify the games and sports that interest your children.
There are also plenty of options in terms of larger pieces of equipment and games too. Paddling pools, climbing frames and trampolines are all examples of great play items that your kids will appreciate.
By making your garden a fun place, you can help your children to get the most out of outdoor play.
