“Since your precious little bundle of joy is going to be depending on the stroller for both comfort and safety, it is important to check certain aspects of it before you buy. Brakes are one feature that need to be checked. Firstly be sure that they are easy to put on, but harder to get off. You don’t want them to slip to the off position when they are supposed to be on. You need to have brakes on the rear wheels that can both be operated by the one lever, otherwise it is too tempting to only put on the one nearest to you, thus compromising the baby’s safety.

A safe harness is necessary to keep that wriggling toddler where he is supposed to be. If a child can undo the harness and get out of it, he could be out of sight before you notice. The clips on the harness should be easy for you to use, but not easy for the toddler. The straps should be adjustable to allow for growth and should have two shoulder straps, a crotch strap and another strap for the waist.

Different strollers have different wheels. Large ones are easier to handle on rough terrain, but they all need to lock into a straight-ahead position for when you get up speed. Swivel wheels make manoeuvring around tight places easier. Inflatable tyres will give bub a more comfy ride.”
