Indoor Games for a Rainy Day Posted By : Jane Worthington
December 1st, 2008The summer is a fantastic time when you are a kid. It is warm and sunny out and you never run out of things to do. Children can entertain themselves for hours as long as they are able to get messy and run around. However, there will always be a few rainy days even during the best summers. Nothing puts a frown on a child’s face like a rainy day. In order to be ready to entertain your little ones when that big summer storm hits, you need to gather a few materials. As long as you have a set of cards, some crayons, paint, and marbles, you are ready.
If you know it is going to be a rainy day, try to wake up a little before the kids. It is best to surprise them with a fun activity before they even have time to get disappointed! Try to lay out newspaper all over you kitchen island table. Now your island will become today’s arts and crafts work table! Since your kitchen is already mess proof, it will definitely be able to handle anything your children throw at it.
For a fun morning project take old boxes that are at least one foot by one foot and tape a white piece paper inside. Have a few bottles of paint ready to go and a few marbles. It is time to paint by marbles! Have each kid dip a marble in some paint and place it in the box. By rolling the marble around, the paint is spread. After everyone rolls multi-colored marbles around their boxes, everyone will have a masterpiece!
This project will wear everyone out, so while you clean up your kitchen island table, have the kids watch a fun video that lasts at least an hour. Next, pull out the cards and play a card game! Try Go Fish or Old Maid because they are the easiest to learn. Once everyone tires of cards, pull out those crayons and more paper. If you continually mix up the activities throughout the day, the kids will no longer care about the rain and everyone will have an awesome day.
As long as you have a kitchen island or work table you are willing to get messy, this rainy day will be just as fun as a sunny one!
