Do You Know What Your Kids Are Up To? Posted By : Regina Jacques
November 21st, 2008I read in a newsletter I received that this is national Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Some 161,000 lung cancer deaths are expected in the U.S. in 2008, that makes for nearly a third of all cancer deaths. ACS notes lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, killing more individuals than colon, breast, and prostate cancers together.
Myself and my husband don’t smoke, but as much time as we spend out with acquaintances that do, it wouldn’t surprise us if that will some day catch up to us! What about your kids? Those of you with teens in the house…have you ever wondered if they might be smoking out the bedroom window? That’s exactly what my friend used to do! You just never know, no matter how innocent they may seem! I can’t tell you how many friends I had in high school that started smoking were hiding it at home, and they are still smokers today!
My mother-in-law Terry’s best high school friend Beth Ann tried to get her to begin smoking in 8th grade. She tried it, and began coughing. Beth Ann informed her that she had to inhale it all the way. She was three years younger than Terry, and died of lung cancer 5 years ago. She was just reflecting on her girlfriend as she was informing my hubby about his uncle having to quit smoking as to medical reasons this past week.
The best way to find out would be to institute a smoke detector hidden camera. They will NEVER conceive it to be a camera! They might think they’re 16 going on 35, however you as the wise one need to be wiser and do this for them. Not only would you see if they were smoking, but you can find out, God forbid, what else they may be doing when you’re not around or when you’re home and in another room.
Many have spy ware on their computer, however they could be sitting there playing with a gun, taking drugs, or having sex! Having a hidden camera in their room, you’ll always have the upper hand and can bring them up smart. In this day and age, you don’t know what teens are contemplating or doing. They should never have to know you found out via the hidden camera, you can just point them in the right direction. Have a matter-of-fact talk with them about the dangers of lung cancer, or not using protection. You as a parent need to scope out what’s going on presently for their future’s sake.
Yours in Safety,
Regina Jacques
