Grandparents will take of children whose parents who are addicted to drugs much easier than any other member of the family would. This is also part of a government strategy to reduce instances of kids being put up in care homes. Local authorities will pay grandparents to take of their grandchildren, and ultimately win guardianship with relaxed rules. This was in response to what one government official termed as ‘intergenerational drug abuse’. Benefits, such as jobseeker’s allowances and incapacity benefits, are also to be cut depending on compliance to drug abusers record in attending regular drug agency meetings and linking compliance to treatment courses with benefits’ payments.
