Preparing for the arrival of your prescious bundle is an exciting time in your life as well as a busy one! A new baby brings many changes and among them giving attention to our pets which before baby they were your ‘children’.

This articles helps you prepare your beloved ‘furbabies’ to the arrival of your soon to be baby and how to introduce them to your baby before he or she is even born!

Your pet was probaly your ‘child’ before baby. Preparing them for your new arrival is very important to both you and your pet. Start speaking your baby’s name often. Bring your pet into the baby’s nursery and point to the crib. Speak baby’s name while pointing to the crib. While speaking to your DH or SO often speak your baby’s name so that your pet will grow accustomed to your baby’s name. Purchasing a CD of baby noises, giggles and laughs have also helped some new moms get their pooch familiar with sounds your new baby will make.

After the baby is born, while you will be very busy between feedings and sleep deprivation, it is imperative to remember that your pet is still a part of your ‘family’. Perhaps asking your husband or partner to accomodate you on ‘Stroller Walks’ with your pet so that he or she doesn’t feel ‘left out’ by staying at home. Remember, before baby your pet was your ‘only’ so it is important to still include him or her during ‘family time’.
